Now Christmas - How Many Have There Been?

 Is this the complete list of "Now Christmas"? I wonder. It feels like there's been one every year, analysis reveals that there hasn't been not quite, here's some milestones for the various slight variations in songs on the "Now Christmas" compilations.



Now The Christmas Compact Disc (1986), there was also Now The Christmas Album on Vinyl & Cassette in 1985. it included that Gary Glitter song and a Queen christmas song "Thank God It's Christmas" that's never been on a Now Christmas since. Not sure why this Queen christmas song isn't bigger and has only been on this one.

Now! The Christmas Album (2000)

There were hardly any spin offs under the Now That's What I Call Music brand, apart from a Years collection from 1983-1993 in the 10th Anniversary series, uinlike in the Best Album In The World Ever.. series which seemed to be the main themed big compilation series in the 90s. The Now spin offs began with "Now Love" in 1994 and "Now! The Christmas Album" was only the second of them in 2000.

Now Xmas (2005) single CD.
As far as I can see, this one was the next christmas album under the Now brand to be released, the rival "Hits" series by BMG/Sony put out "Christmas Hits" in 2001



Now Xmas (2006)

Now Xmas (2009) - not sure if this one exists every time I try to buy it on Ebay Now Xmas 2006 arrives.


Now Xmas (2011) this one is confusing, as it says 2010 on the back, seems to be at least the same as the 2011 one.

Although it always features the biggest Christmas songs such as Slade, John Lennon, Wizzard & Paul McCartney, one particularly big one wasn't on Now Christmas until the 2012 one, which at the time felt like the most complete one yet.

Now Christmas (2012) - this is the first to include Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone. "Blue Christmas" was the only one before (first on Now The Christmas Compact Disc).
Now Christmas (2013) - the first one to have Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
Now Christmas (2015) - this one also has Mariah Carey the last to do so fior now.



Now 100 Hits Christmas (2019)
Now 100 Hits Christmas (2020) - appears to have exactly the same lineup as 2019 but in a different order.



Now Christmas (2021)

Now Christmas (2022) - now includes Ed Sheeran & Elton John - Merry Christmas, first time Ed Sheeran - Perfect has been on any Now. So although it seems like there has been one every year there hasn't quite been.

1992 now coming out as a Yearbook!

Rather randomly Now Yearbook '92 has just been announced. The series began with Now Yearbook 1983 back in Summer 2021 on 4 CDs containing just over 80 songs from the year (some of them huge hits and others more obscure choices from the year in chart music) and then fans were surprised that instead of being followed up with Yearbook 1984 it was followed up by Now Yearbook 1983 Extra which simply provided 3 more CDs of hits to complement the original 4 with about 60 more songs included, some of the choices becoming yet more obscure. It was then actually followed by Yearbook 1984 and Yearbook 1984 Extra but fans were once again surprised by the series then going backwards to release Now Yearbook 1982 instead of 1985, but 1985 & 1986 also eventually followed and the series also has so far now gone back as far as Yearbook 1978. Internet Radio & now also Mixcloud banning single artist shows - why the PRS/PPL doesn't make sense.

Why are the big copyright agencies for the record industry dead set against smaller broadcasters playing more than 2 or 3 songs by a single artist in a row or within an hour? and does this really achieve anything? (even looking at it from their point of view), I argue that it does not and look into the restriction here. Mixcloud which for years didn't seem to have this restriction at all has now hit uploaders with it as well. Want to play copyrighted songs over the interweb? you've got to ask these guys first, mmmkay! Internet radio and copyrighted music has been a bit of a contentious issue for the 2 decades or so since it became a thing, at first back in the Noughties the rights organisations both sides of the Atlantic who gatekeep copyrighted pop music etc were almost trying to suppress the whole concept entirely, and then the licences they did come up for "webcasters" came with a whole bunch of restrictions, that seemed to suck the fun and joy out of it  And ther...

10 March Gary Lineker, this is most likely proof that the BBC has indeed been infiltrated by the Tories in some key positions given they are trying hard not to allow him to put out his own opinion.
